When it comes to marketing winter sports in the summer we have something to figure out because attendence drops drastically. You might think the free air conditioning would be a big seller right? Especially when the weather gets warmer I was wonder if people fear catching colds or something if they go ice skating or it's just not on anybody's mind in general. This is my next project: to figure out why this happens then find a way to market it and do it sucessfully with results.
There's got to be a way to change whatever the reason is this summer in Cincinnati; seems like the free air conditioning would be able to promote itself if we can just get people to think about it. Potentially "Coolest thing to do in Cincinnati this summer™" has good vibes to it. Let me know if you come up with anything else. Your idea could be the key to changing this entertainment industry this season.
This is a great industry to prove recognition as a marketing consultant and this is my next personal goal / challenge. I know I can't do it without all the help from our ice skating professionals, staff and owners. I look at generating attendance as a benefit to everyone and not necessarily a commercial project. The more income, attention, participation and positive recognition; the more we can do with our second home in general (the ice rink).
The motivation is part passion, part challenge, part raising the bar and anyone that want to help can really make a difference; create a bi-weekly group about Cincinnati ice sports & recreation or just share ideas online. I don't have to do anything but I want to do something since I love the ice and the CAHL community especially.
Deep down I know CSZ wont be completed and want to see another rink built in the next 3 to 5 years by real people with real intentions and passion, not investors (or owners / organizers) with false promises and not-so-good leadership abilities or practices (trying to put it nicely). I have the ultimate respect for every single ice rink owner in Cincinnati because I have seen first-hand what it takes to run one of these things; everything from property taxes to electricity and tons of mechanical stuff from the Zam to the Compressors. Fascinating stuff and an admirable undertaking that deserves great recognition.
